Barry Hill Saturday Racing Tips
Barry Hill has 4 selections today after bagging a couple of winners from his Boxing Day 'Best Bets'.
1.12 LEOPARDSTOWN
Paddy's Rewards Club Chase (Grade 1)
MAJBOROUGH - 6/4
This may come down to fitness and I’m happy to take another chance on MAJBOROUGH. Jumping remains the question, but if he travels as he did early in the Arkle it should help keep him focused. Back left-handed, with ground no issue, he has the ability to go very close if limiting mistakes.
2.30 KEMPTON
Ladbrokes Desert Orchid Handicap Chase (Grade 2) (Limited Handicap Chase) (GBB Race)
THISTLE ASK - 7/4
The Skeltons can land this feature again with THISTLE ASK, who looks a serious new force in the two-mile division. He’s improved markedly since joining the yard, completing a hat-trick with a dominant Grade 2 Haldon Gold Cup win at Exeter over Saint Segal and JPR One. That form has been well franked since and he looks capable of taking another step forward on his way to even better things.
2.45 WETHERBY
William Hill Castleford Handicap Chase (GBB Race)
DOYEN DU BAR - 7/1
Dan Skelton has a strong recent record in this race and, of his two runners, preference is for DOYEN DU BAR. He shaped well on his seasonal and stable debut at Newbury and was progressive over fences last season. With his form repeatedly franked, a mark that may still underestimate him and softer ground set to suit, he looks the one to side with.
2.50 CHEPSTOW
Coral Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race)
ROCK MY WAY - 11/2
If turning up in the same form as his emphatic Berkshire National success at Ascot, ROCK MY WAY will be very hard to beat. He travelled strongly throughout before quickening clear by 11 lengths, showing an unusual turn of foot for a stayer. A 9lb rise asks a question in a stronger race, but he looked miles ahead of his mark and, with just limited experience over marathon trips, there could still be plenty more to come.
