ROMEO MONTAGUE sets the standard on form in this Newmarket contest after shaping encouragingly at York on debut and returns here with strong claims under Ryan Moore. Romeo Montague fetched £140,000 as a yearling and showed ability when finishing midfield in a hot York novice last month. That race has since produced two Royal Ascot winners, giving the form a serious boost. Representing Richard Spencer and now partnered by Moore, he looks primed to take a big step forward with that initial experience under his belt.

With course form a key factor on the Tapeta, FANTASTIC FOX makes plenty of appeal for Roger Varian, returning to the scene of several strong efforts. Fantastic Fox hasn't had the rub of the green in two starts this season, but he was reportedly stiff after his last effort and now returns refreshed. He’s back to the same mark as when finishing second over this C&D in January and boasts a strong record at Newcastle. If bouncing back to form, he's well treated and could easily outrun his odds.

Cooperation snapped a two-year drought with a determined win at Newmarket in May and has since run solidly at Redcar despite a quick turnaround. He remains competitively weighted, holds proven 7f credentials and should get a strong pace to aim at. With eyeshields removed last time and retained here, he looks primed to go close again.

That run came on ground with a bit of ease, but he's versatile and is now racing off the same mark, despite being due to go up 2lbs in the future. The Fahey sprinter looks well placed to go one better.
