AMAZING JOURNEY - 5/2

An intriguing contest for juveniles, this 6f novice stakes has drawn a competitive field featuring several promising types with scope for rapid improvement. AMAZING JOURNEY sets the standard on paper following a strong debut effort at Chelmsford, where he overcame a slow start to rattle home late into fourth. That form is already working out well and, with Saffie Osborne booked again, Jamie Osborne’s colt looks primed to step forward second time out.

Carefree Dream improved markedly when a close second over course and distance just a week ago. The J S Moore-trained filly is bred to be sharp and looks a strong player again if reproducing that level. Madman also showed enough on debut at Windsor to suggest he’s one to keep on side. Despite being slowly away, he ran on steadily and this looks a slightly easier task.

Coul Jane is quietly progressing with experience and was only narrowly denied in a Goodwood seller last time. That effort puts her in the mix, while Mayaada shaped well on debut at Bath and should build on that with Trevor Whelan retaining the ride. Newcomer Demetrius boasts a useful sprinting pedigree and could be one to note in the market for the always-respected Sir Mark Prescott team.

Verdict: AMAZING JOURNEY caught the eye late on debut and looks capable of much better with experience. He gets the nod ahead of the tough and consistent Carefree Dream, while Madman and Mayaada also rate threats in what could prove an informative race for the future.

OLDBURY LAD - 11/2

This low-grade handicap over six furlongs brings together a mix of older campaigners and lightly raced three-year-olds, several of whom arrive with something to prove. Endowed returned to winning ways over course and distance just a week ago and is turned out quickly under a 4lbs penalty. Once rated much higher, he’s clearly on a workable mark now and should go well again if in the same form.

OLDBURY LAD is still a maiden but has gone close the last twice and was notably unlucky not to finish closer at Salisbury, having been squeezed out in the closing stages. The application of cheekpieces seems to have sharpened him up and he looks poised to strike.

All Too Beautiful shaped with promise when second on handicap debut at Lingfield and is open to further improvement. Roger Teal’s filly remains unexposed and commands respect at this level. Fellow three-year-old Miakoda could also play a role. A winner on the all-weather earlier this year, he has hinted at more to come and may benefit from the first-time visor and return to 6f.

Diamond Cottage is a Chepstow regular who got her head in front over this C&D last month. She’s a player if bouncing back from a poor showing on softer ground last time.

Verdict: OLDBURY LAD is getting closer with each run and can finally shed his maiden tag if getting a clearer passage this time. Endowed is dangerous under a penalty, while All Too Beautiful is the potential improver in the field.

ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS - 10/3

A small but tightly matched field lines up for this 5f sprint, with several course specialists bringing strong local form to the table. ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS looked to be going places when winning stylishly at Windsor last month and is worth forgiving a below-par follow-up effort at Sandown. Dropping in grade today and still unexposed in handicap company, she could bounce back with a bang.

Stablemates So Smart and Connie’s Rose add depth for Grace Harris. The former fared better than All Ways Glamorous when second at Sandown last week and remains well weighted if allowed to dictate. Connie’s Rose, meanwhile, is a Chepstow regular with six course wins to her name and arrives off another narrow defeat, her third close finish of the season. She rarely runs a bad race here.

Level Up snapped a losing run when landing a C&D contest earlier this month, having overcome trouble in running. He’s gone up 4lbs for that but still appears attractively handicapped and must enter calculations. Honour Your Dreams brings northern form into the mix and wasn’t disgraced at Thirsk last time, though he struggled over this C&D in 2023. Some Nightmare, another multiple Chepstow winner, could run on late if the front-runners overcook things. His best form often comes when the race sets up for closers.

Verdict: ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS has more to offer in handicaps and could take advantage of a drop in grade. Course specialists Connie’s Rose and So Smart rate major dangers, while Level Up shouldn’t be underestimated if backing up his latest win.

THURSO - 6/5

An intriguing sprint featuring improving three-year-olds and seasoned handicappers, this 6f contest could hinge on the continued progress of THURSO, who looks a sprinter firmly on the up. Richard Hughes’ gelding took a while to find his feet but has turned a corner since being gelded. He produced a strong finish to win at Haydock last time, coming from well off the pace to reel in a well-handicapped rival. An 8lbs rise asks another question, but he could have more in the locker.

Kamekist rates the main danger after a solid third at Haydock behind a subsequent dual winner. Eve Johnson Houghton’s charge scored over this trip on the all-weather earlier in the season and is likely to be in the mix again back at 6f. Over Spiced has been in excellent form of late, with two recent wins including one over C&D, and steps back up to 6f here. She remains competitively weighted and could surprise if staying the extra distance strongly.

Jax Edge hasn’t been seen on turf since last summer but ended 2024 with a brace of AW wins. She may need this outing to sharpen up but is certainly capable at this level. Raffles Angel was prolific last season and should strip fitter for her seasonal return, while Ten Club is also noted returning to this trip after scoring over C&D two runs ago.

Verdict: THURSO’s recent form looks rock solid and he may still be ahead of the handicapper despite a significant rise. Kamekist and Over Spiced appeal as the most likely threats, while Ten Club could outrun his odds if things fall right.

LAMBOURNGHINI - 3/1

A low-grade but competitive handicap, with several holding claims in a wide-open affair. LAMBOURNGHINI heads the market and rightly so. Lightly raced for David Evans, she shaped well in a pair of 1m handicaps this spring, racing freely but sticking on gamely. The drop to 7f looks a smart move and she remains open to further improvement.

My Clementine has slipped to a workable mark and was not beaten far over this C&D last month. She didn’t see out 1m on softer ground last time but could be much more effective now dropped in trip on quicker going. Veteran sprinter Ajrad is another to consider, returning to firmer conditions and the cheekpieces that were on for his last win. He’s a course scorer off this same mark and may outrun his odds with Saffie Osborne booked.

Letter Of The Law returns to 7f after a string of inconsistent runs. His second here over a mile in April offered some hope, but he’s hard to catch right. Stablemate Marisitta also has form at the track, but her recent run was underwhelming and she remains a maiden after 16 attempts.

Too Much Trevor went close over C&D in May but has struggled to back that up. If breaking on terms, he might sneak a place. At longer odds, Pipkin is unexposed and may come on for her reappearance if attracting late market support.

Verdict: LAMBOURNGHINI has shaped with promise in deeper races and looks well placed to get off the mark now dropped to 7f. My Clementine is feared most back at her ideal trip, while Ajrad and Too Much Trevor are capable of getting involved on a going day.

DARKENED EDGE - 7/4

The finale at Chepstow is a fittingly open-looking 5f dash sponsored by everytip.com and it could go the way of the consistent and improving DARKENED EDGE. Christopher Mason’s mare has been knocking on the door with a pair of runner-up efforts this season, including a strong showing at Bath last time when only beaten by a lightly raced improver. That form has a solid look to it and she’s well placed to go one better here.

We’re Reunited is dangerously handicapped on old form and showed plenty of spark when finishing second over 6f here last week. The drop back to 5f could suit and he’s clearly edging closer to breaking a long losing run. Fishermans Cottage has been admirably consistent since scoring at Salisbury in May and although slightly below his best when behind the principals at Bath, he still holds place claims under William Carson. Coco Hill didn’t enjoy the clearest of runs at Bath but finished well enough to suggest she can reverse the form with a smoother passage. She remains of interest, especially with cheekpieces left off this time.

Moe’s Legacy has the talent to get involved and didn’t enjoy much luck two starts back, though she’s one that can be tricky to win with. Dream By Day needs to rediscover his spark but is weighted accordingly.

Verdict: DARKENED EDGE has been admirably consistent and may not need to improve much to land this. We're Reunited is feared most if repeating last week's effort, while Coco Hill and Fishermans Cottage can’t be ruled out in a tightly knit closer to the card.
