DEIRA STORM - 4/1

DEIRA STORM looks primed to go one better today in what looks like a modest novice contest on paper. Owen Burrows' colt made a highly encouraging debut when second on the all-weather last December and shaped better than the result last time at Kempton, where he ran into traffic problems and never landed a blow. The switch to turf and extra half-furlong should play to his strengths and he has a nice profile for this kind of race.

Tsuki is the one they all have to beat after a good debut win and a solid second at Haydock. She's clearly got ability, but her tendency to race freely and show signs of inexperience could leave her vulnerable late on. Abundance is another with consistent placed efforts and is edging closer to a breakthrough, though he may again find one or two too strong. Fulford Cross, who caught the eye on debut, also deserves respect, but today might be more about learning than winning.

ABLOOM - 11/2

ABLOOM looks capable of stepping forward to take the spoils at the third time of asking. The William Haggas-trained filly shaped with promise on debut and showed further progress when fifth at Chester last time, travelling well before fading late on in a race not run to suit. With conditions looking more favourable today and Cieren Fallon back in the saddle, she’s expected to be much more competitive this time around.

The market is headed by Heart Of Eternity, who makes her debut for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby. She’s bred to be useful and commands obvious respect, although will need to be sharp to handle some more experienced rivals. Chinkara sets the standard on form, having run well in a pair of novice events over a mile, but she now drops in trip and switches to quicker ground, which isn’t a guaranteed plus.

This looks an open race on paper, but Abloom brings enough experience and scope to suggest she can put it all together today. With the top two in the market priced short despite some question marks, she offers a bit of value in a race that could throw up an improver.

RHYTHMIC ACCLAIM - 11/4

RHYTHMIC ACCLAIM has plenty in her favour and looks ready to strike back in Class 6 company. A three-time winner in 2024, including twice over this C&D, she’s been holding her own in higher-grade races this year. Most notably, she caught the eye when finishing a luckless fifth here just under two weeks ago in a stronger Class 4. That effort suggests she remains in good heart and with a clearer passage today, she can make her presence felt under Charlie Bennett.

Dark Dreamer has been edging back into form and is well treated on last season’s winning marks. He’s been running creditably over 6f and 7f and should be thereabouts again, while Papa Cocktail looks a live danger if the ground dries out with his narrow Redcar defeat two starts back suggesting he’s on the cusp of a return to form. Court Of Session drops to 6f for the first time and has hinted at a revival, though may find a few too sharp if they go a good clip.

NEWFANGLED - 13/2

NEWFANGLED makes plenty of appeal after a string of consistent efforts. Jonathan Portman’s gelding has been a model of reliability, hitting the frame in 11 of his last 12 starts and winning three times along the way. He found only Walson’s Law too good at Windsor last week, but now meets that rival on 5lbs better terms and returns to his favoured all-weather surface, where he boasts a strong record. From stall 8, Trevor Whelan should be able to settle him in midfield and produce a late run.

Walson’s Law has to be respected after that breakthrough win last Monday but faces a tougher assignment under a penalty and now switches to Polytrack for the first time. Ombrecell is another unexposed type with potential. He got off the mark over C&D last month on stable debut for Chris Gordon and remains lightly raced, though that form hasn't worked out especially well just yet.

HELLO ZAMAN - 13/2

HELLO ZAMAN looks ready to take another step forward now back on the all-weather. A sharp winner at Lingfield in January, James Tate’s colt has since performed creditably in stronger company, including when not beaten far in a warm contest last time out. That experience should serve him well and although drawn a touch wide in stall 11, his early pace and proven form over the trip make him a serious player here under Clifford Lee.

There are dangers aplenty. Persian Spirit is 2-4 and has impressed over C&D already this season, while Hoodie Hoo remains capable of better despite a lacklustre effort in a strong Newmarket handicap last time. Backspin is another going the right way and finished his race strongly on Good Friday at Lingfield, suggesting there's more to come.

WINGED MESSENGER - 3/1

A return to Hamilton looks ideal for WINGED MESSENGER, who can take a big step forward from his seasonal reappearance and get back in the winner’s enclosure. Julie Camacho’s gelding shaped well when third at Pontefract last month, his first run since being gelded and should strip fitter for that outing. He’s already a C&D winner on soft ground as a juvenile and the likely strong early pace could play right into his hands under Ryan Sexton, especially drawn well in stall 1.

Parisiac sets the standard on recent form, having won and then gone close in back-to-back runs over C&D. He’s effectively 3lbs well-in compared to last week’s runner-up finish and will rightly attract support, but this is his third run in 14 days and he could be vulnerable to something fresher. Wrestling Revenue is another who hinted at a revival last time and lurks on a dangerous mark, while Digital continues to slide in the weights and would be dangerous if bouncing back to his best.
