Where To Watch Aston Villa v Newcastle United

Aston Villa v Newcastle United will be played at Villa Park on Saturday 19th April. The match will kick off at 17:30 and is live on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Ultra HDR. Aston Villa v Newcastle United will also feature on BBC1’s Match Of The Day programme from 22:30. Exclusive radio commentary will be broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Form

Aston Villa came agonisingly close to pulling off a famous comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in midweek but were eliminated from the competition despite winning 3-2 in the second leg of their quarter-final tie at Villa Park. In the Premier League, Aston Villa are just one point off Manchester City in the final Champions League spot thanks to a run of four straight league wins. Unai Emery’s side have taken 54 points from their 32 matches. Aston Villa have lost just one league game at Villa Park all season.

Newcastle United head to Villa Park on Saturday full of confidence thanks to Wednesday night’s 5-0 demolition of in-form Crystal Palace. The Magpies are now up to third in the Premier League table thanks to five straight league wins. Eddie Howe’s side are the third highest scorers in the Premier League behind Liverpool and Manchester City and in the race for Champions League qualification The Magpies hold a five-point lead over Chelsea in sixth with 59 points from 32 matches.

Aston Villa v Newcastle United: Head-to-Head

Newcastle United have had the upper hand in recent meetings between these two clubs. The Magpies have won five of their last six contests against Saturday’s hosts. This season’s reverse fixture at St James’ Park produced a comfortable 3-0 win for Newcastle United thanks to goals from Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Joelinton.

The Magpies also hit three in the corresponding fixture at Villa Park last season as a Fabian Schar brace helped guide Eddie Howe’s side to a 3-1 win in January 2024. That win was Newcastle United’s first away win at Aston Villa since September 2013.

EveryTip.com Betting Tips

This match could go either way as illustrated by the incredibly tight match odds. The match result market is perhaps one we’d advise steering clear of but if pushed to pick a win, we’d side with the visitors at 9/5. Newcastle United are one of the few Premier League sides enjoying a better run of form than Aston Villa whilst the mental and physical toll of Wednesday’s win over Paris Saint-Germain cannot be underestimated.

One area we are keen to offer our support is in the various goal markets. There have been at least three goals scored in each of the last five meetings between the sides. Meanwhile Aston Villa’s last seven matches in all competitions have produced three or more goals and Newcastle United have averaged 3.5 goals per game in four big wins throughout April. ‘Over 2.5 match goals’ or ‘both teams to score’ are equally attractive options at 13/20 and 11/20 respectively.

As for picking a potential goalscorer, there are plenty to choose from. Donyell Malen, cup-tied for the Champions League has scored in the three straight league games and could prove real value to score at any time whilst Ollie Watkins scored in this fixture last season and has a point to prove after being benched for the win over PSG. Malen and Watkins are priced at 9/4 or 13/10 to score at any time on Saturday.

Harvey Barnes has scored four goals in Newcastle United’s last three league games and his rich vein of form makes him a major player in the any time scorer market but we’re not going to oppose Barnes’ Newcastle United teammate Alexander Isak. The Sweden international scored the last of Newcastle United’s five goals against Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening to take his tally up to 21 Premier League goals for the season. Isak is available at 6/5 to score at any time at Villa Park this weekend.
