JEWEL MAKER - 5/2

Tim Easterby’s veteran has been threatening to get back in the winner’s enclosure and this looks a suitable opening. Jewel Maker wasn’t seen to best effect when fifth at Thirsk on Friday, short of room at a vital stage, but still finished within two lengths of the principals. That was a stronger race than today’s and he’s now dropped to a very workable mark.

Main dangers include Poetic Force, who arrives in consistent form and has been admirably reliable all summer, while Tees George returned to form with a near miss at Beverley last time and shouldn’t be ignored. Kaaress also shaped well at Redcar on her penultimate start and could play a part if repeating that effort.

Verdict: JEWEL MAKER looks primed to take advantage of a falling handicap mark. Poetic Force is respected as the main danger, with Tees George another to consider for place money.

DESTINADO - 6/1

James Owen’s gelding is hard to predict but remains very well handicapped on the pick of his spring form and this drop into a weaker Brighton handicap offers him a real chance. Destinado ran better than the bare result at Newmarket last time and has slipped to a mark of 65, with rider Mason Paetel taking off an extra 5lbs. That makes him dangerously well treated if he can reproduce his best.

Voix De Bocelli is respected as a dual C&D winner earlier this season, while Night Bear looks a solid yardstick at this level and ran well at Yarmouth just over a week ago. Racing Demon, meanwhile, could be a threat if breaking on terms after a tardy start ruined his chance at Salisbury.

Verdict: DESTINADO has been given plenty of help by the handicapper and is worth chancing to bounce back. Voix De Bocelli is feared most, with Night Bear another likely to be in the shake-up.

SWEET SONATA - 15/2

Rod Millman’s filly has found consistency since the application of blinkers and looks set to go well again. Sweet Sonata scored at Goodwood earlier in the summer and has run with credit in each of her subsequent starts, including a fair fifth over this C&D last time where she didn’t enjoy the clearest run. Back in the same headgear, she should be well suited by a race that promises plenty of early pace.

Rage Of Thunder arrives in strong form after a win and two seconds in recent starts, while stablemate Be An Angel also commands respect after a narrow defeat over track and trip. Zarathos is an interesting contender now dropped to sprinting and could pose a fresh threat.

Verdict: SWEET SONATA is weighted to make her presence felt and looks a solid each-way play. Rage Of Thunder is the obvious danger, with Be An Angel also likely to get competitive.
